BRISTOL, Va. - Brooke Smith became the all-time leading scorer in Union College basketball history Wednesday in leading the Lady Bulldogs to an 85-48 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over host Virginia Intermont College.

Smith (Pineville, Ky.) netted 20 points to give her 2,558 career points, moving her past Union men's basketball legend Paul Andrews who amassed 2,552 career points. The 6-foot forward/center is also the first player in Lady Bulldog history to score more than 500 points four years in a row, scoring 579 in 2006-07 as freshman, 778 in 2007-08, 668 last season and 533 thus far this year.

Coincidentally, Smith became the Lady Bulldog all-time leading scorer on Dec. 5 when she scored 32 to move past Amber Spencer, who finished her career with 2,273.

The win improved Union to 15-9 overall and 7-5 in conference play. Virignia Intermont dropped to 2-21 overall and 0-11 in the AAC.

Union stormed out the gates, racing to a 43-13 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs coasted in the second half but still outscored the Lady Cobras 42-35 en route to the 37-point victory.

Union returns home Saturday to host Bluefield (Va.) College at 4 p.m. in conference action.
