
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Senior Brooke Smith rewrote the Union basketball record book during her career, and the school recently retired her No. 3 jersey in honor of her numerous achievements.
Smith (Pineville, Ky.) became the all-time leading scorer in Union history - men's and women's, when she scored 21 points in an 85-48 win at Virginia Intermont on Feb. 3, surpassing Paul Andrews' mark of 2,552 career points. To date, Smith has 2,628 career points with two regular-season games and the postseason left to play in her career.
The 6-foot forward/center also ranks third all-time in rebounding in Lady Bulldog history with 944.
Smith is the only player in program history to score 500 or more points all four seasons. In addition, she holds the program records for most points in a game (54) and in a season (778), most field goals made in a game (20) and in a season (287), most free throws made in a season (188) and most blocked shots in a game (6), in a season (65) and in a career (205).
A two-time NAIA All-American Third Team member, Smith has twice earned the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year award as well as a spot on the All-AAC First Team. In 2007, she was named the AAC Tournament MVP and the Freshman of the Year. Smith received AAC Player of the Week honors seven times and the NAIA weekly honor twice during her career.
Smith's jersey is the fifth to be retired by Union, joining Cliff Swim's No. 22 (men's basketball), Ernie Trosper's No. 29 (men's basketball), Amber Spencer's No. 34 (women's basketball) and Juliana Filipe's No. 10 (women's soccer).
