WALESKA, Ga. -- Reinhardt College freshman pitcher Maddie Monroe began her collegiate career in fine fashion on Sunday by throwing a perfect game as the Lady Eagles began their 2010 season with an 8-0 win over the NCAA Division III LaGrange College Panthers.

Monroe, from Calhoun High School in Calhoun, Ga., got the opening-game start for Reinhardt and responded by retiring all 18 batters she faced. Monroe finished with 10 strikeouts over six innings against LaGrange, an NCAA Tournament team last season.

The Lady Eagles went on the sweep the Panthers after winning the second game of the doubleheader by the score of 12-2.
