KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Mother nature made sure she had a hand in the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament.

Showers graced Domtar Park all day, forcing numerous delays and even a rescheduling of games for tomorrow. Two games were played with another reaching the seventh inning, but a late downpour ended the opening day of action without finishing all the games on the ledger.

The first game of the tournament between No. 5 seed Tennessee Wesleyan and No. 4 seed Virginia Intermont encountered a long rain delay, but was completed with the Lady Bulldogs claiming the upset, 2-0, over the Lady Cobras.

Tennessee Wesleyan opened the scoring with an in-the-park home run off the bat of Megan Arndts in the second inning and added to its lead with an RBI triple from Ashley Bryson in the third inning, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Brittany Fox made sure the two runs would be all the offense she would need as the senior shut down the Lady Cobra attack to the tune of zero runs on just two hits, while striking out 11 batters en route to the opening round win.

The days only other completed game saw the Lady Eagles of Reinhardt College smother the Bluefield Lady Rams, 8-0 in five innings. Kelsey Floyd was outstanding in her five innings of work, holding the Lady Rams scoreless while only allowing three hits. Leading the Reinhardt offensive charge was freshman Lindsey Booker, as she went 2-for-2 with a double, a stolen base, two RBI's and two runs scored. Alex Riccardi also notched a solid game, going 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.

The contest between No. 3 seed Montreat and No. 6 seed Union reached the seventh inning with the Lady Bulldogs on top, 5-2, but was postponed until tomorrow morning when the teams will pick up the action at 10:00 a.m.

The tilt between No. 7 seed UVA-Wise and No. 2 seed Milligan never got underway as the rain started coming down before the scheduled five o'clock start. The opening round game has been moved to 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.

The losers bracket game between No. 8 seed Bluefield and No. 4 seed Virginia Intermont was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, but has been moved back to 1:00 p.m. due to the rescheduling of Tuesday's events. The second loser's bracket contest that was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. has been pushed back to 3:00 p.m., while the second round winner's bracket game between No. 5 seed Tennessee Wesleyan and No. 1 seed Reinhardt has been pushed back to 5:00 p.m.

The second round winner's bracket game scheduled for 5:00 p.m. will be moved back to 7:00 p.m., and the awards ceremony that was set for today before the three o'clock Union, Montreat game, has been rescheduled as well. The awards ceremony is set to take place between the three o'clock and five o'clock games tomorrow afternoon.
