KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Pitching was the name of the game on day two of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament at Domtar Park in Kingsport, Tenn.
Union and Montreat got the action underway early in the morning, finishing up their first round contest that was postponed on Tuesday due to rain. The action was picked up in the top of the seventh inning with one runner on and one out for the Lady Bulldogs. Montreat retired the next two Union batters to end the frame and head to the bottom of the seventh, trailing 5-2.
From there Union senior Sarah Driver made easy work of the Lady Cavaliers, pushing Union to the first round win, 5-2.
UVA-Wise handled Milligan College in the second game of the day, 4-0, behind the stellar pitching performance of Lauren Snead, advancing The Lady Cavaliers to the second round to face Union College.
Virginia Intermont handled Bluefield in the first elimination game of the tournament, 6-0. The Lady Cobras used an early offensive attack to put room between itself and the Lady Rams. Kristen Dyer made sure the early offense would hold up as the junior mowed through the Bluefield attack to earn the shutout win.
No. 2 seed Milligan College could not rebound from its early afternoon loss, as the Lady Cavaliers used timely hitting to eliminate the Lady Buffaloes, 4-1.
