KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The final day of the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament at Domtar Park saw the Union College Lady Bulldogs take down the Virginia Intermont Lady Cobras 2-0 to earn the tournament crown.

The Lady Cobras had to battle through a tough Reinhardt team earlier that morning to make it to the title game.

Virginia Intermont used an early offensive explosion, scoring three runs in the opening inning to take a 3-1 lead over Reinhardt.

The Lady Eagles battled back in the sixth inning, scoring two runs on a throwing error to pull even at 3-3 heading into the last inning of regulation.

Both teams could not push across a run in the seventh inning as the play in game headed into extra innings.

From there, Virginia Intermont wasted no time to end the game, as Brittany Lewis belted a game ending two-run homer to push the Lady Cobras past Reinhardt, 5-3, to advance to play Union for the title.

In the championship game, Union received a solid pitching performance Abby Sears to hold the Lady Cobras scoreless while Gina Loflin provided two RBI singles, pushing Union to the 2-0 win and the 2010 AAC Crown.

Union now moves on to play in the NAIA national tournament in Decatur, Ala. as the AAC representative. The tournament will be held between May 20th to the 26th.
