JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Milligan (Tenn.) added two more Appalachian Athletic Conference championships to its mantle as the Buffaloes and Lady Buffaloes are the 2011 Men's and Women's Track & Field champions.

John Luther of Union (Ky.) was named the men's Most Outstanding Performer, while Alyssia Lindsey of Bryan (Tenn.) is the women's Most Outstanding Performer.

The meet was held Thursday at Sidney Smallwood Track in Johnson City, Tenn.

In the men's team competition, Milligan tallied 55 total points with Union placing second with 30. Bryan was third with 25 and Montreat (N.C.) was fourth with 20.

In the women's team competition, Milligan won with 60 points with Union (35 points) second, Bryan (15 points) third and Montreat (12) fourth.

Luther received the Most Outstanding Performer honor after set a conference meet record in the shot put with a throw of 13.90 meters (45 feet, 7 inches). The previous record was 13.46 meters (44 feet, 1.75 inches). He also placed second in the discus with a throw of 129 feet, 8 inches.

Milligan's Tanner Payne won the discus with a conference meet record throw of 152 feet, shattering the previous record of 137 feet, 7 inches.

Lindsey collected the Most Outstanding Performer award after winning 800 and 1500 meter runs. She won the 800 with a time of 2:27.81 and the 1500 in 4:55.34.

As far as women's conference meet records being set, Gillian Giffen of Milligan broke the mark in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:35.47, beating the old mark of 18:35.50. Milligan's Chelsea Leavell set the conference meet records in the shot put and discus. She won the shot put with a toss of 43 feet, 4.5 inches to beat the old mark of 37 feet, 10 inches. In the discus, she bested the record she set last year with a throw of 127 feet, 3 inches. Last year, Leavell had a throw of 125 feet, 3 inches.
