Tennessee Wesleyan was looking to stop a two-game a skid
that had dropped their conference mark to 5-5 and, in the process, give
Coach Stan Harrison career coaching victory number 500 in his 24-years
at TWC.
Hitting four straight 3-point buckets that turned a narrow two-point
lead into a 13-point bulge at the half, the Lady Bulldogs went on to
defeat Union, 70-55.
"I'm glad to have that (500th win) behind us—I think it was beginning
to wear little on the girls and I didn't want to carry that baggage on
the road with us for the next two weeks," said Harrison. "Now maybe we
can put all our focus on just winning games and positioning ourselves
for the tournament."
Harrison was presented the game ball following the victory, along with
a plague from the Appalachian Athletic Conference coaches honoring his
achievement. The school will conduct a formal ceremony to honor
Harrison on Feb. 11 during the final Saturday home date of the season
against Brevard College.
In his career, Coach
Harrison has averaged better than 21 wins per season, coached 11
conference championships and appeared in 7 national
tournaments. Even more impressive, is the 100% graduation
rate of players who completed their eligibility requirements at TWC. Coach
Harrison's team has one senior, Ashley Keck. The rest of the team
is made up of Sophomores and Freshmen.
