Asheville, N.C. – Milligan College capped off their second straight Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field title with four weekly award winners. The honors were announced by the AAC league office on Monday.

 

The Buffaloes saw Gillian Giffen named the AAC's Women's Track Athlete of the week, Fitzroy Harris named the AAC's Men's Field Athlete of the week, Janie Smith named the AAC's Women's Field Athlete of the week and Tanner Payne captured the AAC's Men's Field Athlete of the week award.

Giffen captured Most Outstanding Female Athlete honors during the AAC Conference meet on Thursday afternoon. In the women's 1,500-meter run, the senior won the individual title with a time of 4:53.28. Giffen also finished the women's 5K in first under the previous conference record. Giffen, who set the record last season, captured her second individual title with a time of 18:24.5.

Harris played a large role in Milligan successfully defending their AAC title. The Buffaloes swept the top three positions in the men's 100-meter as Harris paced the way with an event victory with the time of 10.83. Harris also won his second AAC title in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 48.58.

Smith captured two AAC titles in her first appearance in the conference meet. The freshman won the women's discus with a throw of 30.08-meters and then won her second title of the day in the shot put with a mark of 9.98-meters.

Payne set a new AAC record in the men's discus throw as he captured individual honors with a throw of 46.80-meters. The time also qualified the senior for the 2012 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships with a "B" standard. Payne won his second title of the day in the men's shot put with a new meet record with a mark of 14.47-meters.
