KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- The higher seeded teams in each matchup were victorious on day one of the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference Softball Tournament at Domtar Park on Tuesday.

In game one, Tennessee Wesleyan's Ashley Bryson hit a two-RBI, walk-off single to end it, as the third seeded Lady Bulldogs came-from-behind to knock off six-seed Bryan, 9-8. TWC was behind 8-6 going into the bottom half of the final frame, and scored three times in the half inning to take the victory to move onto the winners bracket.

In game two, Reinhardt's Maddie Monroe was dominant in the pitching circle, pacing the second-seeded Lady Eagles to an 8-0, five inning win over seven-seed Montreat. Monroe tossed a one-hitter in the win, striking out 14 in the process.

In game three, fourth-seeded Virginia Intermont used a six-run third inning to hold off fifth-seeded Union, 8-5. The Lady Cobras were led by third baseman Kelli Porter in the victory, as she went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. VI also hit two home runs in the win. 

In the fourth game of the day, eighth seeded Columbia (S.C.) bested ninth-seed Bluefield, 7-2, in a tournament play-in game. Shortstop Crystal Hughes led the Fighting Koloas in the win, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in the lead-off spot. With the loss, Bluefield was knocked out of the tournament.

In the fifth and final game of the day, top-seeded Milligan controlled Columbia in a 9-1, five inning victory. Milligan's Camille Olvey hit a grand slam home run in the win, while pitcher Chancli Connaster scattered three hits, giving up a run in five innings of work.
