GULF SHORES, Ala. - Reinhardt (Ga.) put up a valiant effort but come up just a little short in its opening game of pool play in the NAIA Softball National Championship Tournament, falling 2-0 to Lee (Tenn.).

The tournament is being held at the Gulf Shores Complex in Gulf Shores, Ala.

The Lady Eagles outhit the Lady Flames 6-4 but were unable to push any runs across. Reinhardt's best opportunities came early on as it stranded two runners in the second and third innings. Down 1-0 in the second, Reinhardt led off the frame with three consecutive singles. However, the third single hit a baserunner for the first out. The next to batters struck out and lined out to end the threat.

In the third, Reinhardt loaded the bases with one out, but a 1-2-3 double play snuffed out the potential rally.

Lee took advantage of a couple of Reinhardt errors in the fifth to add an insurance run as it held on for the 2-0 victory.

Jennie Chamness led Reinhardt at the plate in going 2-for-3. Despite the loss, Maddie Monroe pitched well as she went the distance, allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Reinhardt returns to action Friday when it plays Central Baptist (Ark.) at 9 a.m. CDT.
