LEWISTON, Idaho - Fourth-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan continues to roll at the AVISTA-NAIA World Series as it defeated No. 9 seed Rogers State (Okla.) 8-6 on Monday.
Tennessee Wesleyan (50-11 overall) advances to play the winner of No. 2 Lee (Tenn.) and No. 3 Oklahoma City at 6:30 p.m. PDT on Tuesday. Rogers State (47-15 overall) falls into the elimination bracket to play No. 7 Point Park (Pa.) at 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
Tied at 1-1, Tennessee Wesleyan reeled off a five-run rally in the fourth to open up a 6-1 advantage. Jake Stone reached on an error with one out, allowing two runs to score to cap the five-run outburst. In the fifth, Jordan Guida opened the inning with a solo home run to make it 7-1.
Rogers State fought back, cutting the margin to 7-5 thanks to a Randy Ramirez grand slam.
Both teams tacked on a run in the seventh as Tennessee Wesleyan held on to win 8-6.
Jake Stone finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs, while, Dale Ricketts went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Josh Culler picked up the win to improve to 10-2 on the year as he allowed five earned runs on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work. Alfonso Yevoli locked up his sixth save of the year.
