ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Stephanie Burton of Union and Jessica Martinez of Columbia are the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Union defeated Rio Grande (Ohio) 1-0 in its long match of the week and is 1-0 on the year, while Columbia won both of its matches and is 3-2 overall.

Burton, a senior from Queensland, Australia, posted her first shutout of the year in the Lady Bulldogs' 1-0 win. She made a lone save in the second half. The shutout was the fourth of her Union career.

Martinez, a junior from Williamstown, N.J., had a hand in all four of Columbia's goals on the week. She scored twice and added an assist in a 3-1 win over Brewton-Parker (Ga.). Martinez netted the game's lone goal in the 1-0 decision against Warren Wilson (N.C.).
