ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Caroline Mellard of Montreat and Sofie Jorgensen of Union are the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Both Montreat and Union went 1-0-1 last week. Montreat is 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play, while Union is 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the AAC.

Mellard, a senior goalkeeper from Lawrenceburg, Ga., posted a pair of shutouts in playing a total of 200 minutes. She made four saves in a 1-0 win over Milligan and then recorded six saves in a 0-0 tie with Columbia.

This is the second week in a row Mellard has received the award.

Jorgensen, a sophomore forward from Oksbol, Denmark, posted four goals and an assist last week for the Lady Bulldogs. She had two goals and an assist in the 9-0 win over Virginia Intermont and she netted both of Union's goals in the 2-2 tie at Reinhardt.

For the year, Jorgensen leads the conference and ranks seventh in the NAIA in goals per game at 1.6 as she has scored eight goals in five games.
