ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Joel Johnston of Bryan is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This marks the first time Johnston has received the honor this season and second time a Bryan runner has. Teammate Anthony Simpson earned the honor on Sept. 17.

Johnston, a freshman from Martinsville, Va., helped Bryan to a 27th-place finish in the Gold race at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky. Johnston cut more than a minute off of his best time. The race featured four NCAA ranked teams with two in the top 10, a cross country NCAA individual champion and a runner up from the past two years.

Johnston placed 167th out of 255 runners, but he posted a time of 25:59 in the 8K.
