ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Stephanie Burton of Union and Abby Fannin of Tennessee Wesleyan are the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This is second time this season Burton has earned the award, while this is Fannin's first honor this year.

Burton, a senior from Queensland, Australia, registered 20 saves in two matches. She allowed a lone goal in the 84th minute at Georgetown, in a contest where the opposition took 21 total shots (made 11 saves). Burton posted her fourth shutout win of the season at Montreat on Saturday, a victory that pushed the Lady Bulldogs into a first place tie atop the AAC standings. She made nine saves in 90 minutes of work against the Lady Cavaliers.

For the year, Burton has made 66 saves and posted a goals against average of 1.71.

Union is 8-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play.

Fannin, a junior from Pickerington, Ohio, scored two crucial goals in the win at St. Andrews and then assisted two of the first three goals againt Virginia Intermont.

She leads Tennessee Wesleyan in goals (7) and points (18) and ranks sixth in the conference in total points.

Tennessee Wesleyan is 8-6 overall and 6-2 in the AAC.
