ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Abby Stephenson of Virginia Intermont and Chloe McCleary-Small are the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This the first weekly award this season for both Stephenson and McCleary-Small.

Virginia Intermont lost both of its games 3-0 last week, but Stephenson had an extraordinary week in goal for the Lady Cobras. The freshman goalkeeper from Elizabethton, Tenn., recorded 49 total saves, including a career-high 25 stops against Georgia Gwinnett. She has three games with 24 or more saves this season.

Stephenson leads the conference and the NAIA in saves per game with 12.79 and total saves with 179.

Virginia Intermont is 0-14 overall and 0-7 in the AAC.

McCleary-Small, a junior forward from Asheville, N.C., delivered a goal and two assists in Montreat's 3-2 win over Reinhardt as the Lady Cavaliers went 1-1 last week.

On the year, McCleary-Small has six goals and six assists to her credit. She is tied for second in the conference in assists per game at 0.43, while ranking eighth in total points (18).

Montreat is 10-4-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play.
