MONTREAT, N.C. - Montreat and Point played to a 1-1 tie in the opening round of the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, but the eighth-seeded Cavaliers advanced on PKs - winning the shootout 5-3 on Wednesday.

No. 9 seed Point ends the season with a 4-14-1 overall record.

Both teams scored in the first half with Point taking a 1-0 lead off a Phillip Pressgrove goal in the 20th minute. Montreat tied it up in the 38th minute as Pedro Naves scored off an Ezra White assist.

Point goalkeeper Tony Olvera made seven saves, while Montreat's Lucas Carvalho made six.

Montreat now moves on to face top-seeded Milligan in the quarterfinal round on Saturday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
