(BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - May 11) - Union College placed to players on the 2006 CoSIDA District IV College Division Baseball Academic All-America Team with Kevin Smith earning First Team honors and Erin Satterlee landing on the Second Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America) annually names Academic All-America teams in all sports. CoSIDA was established in 1957, and the Academic All-America program dates back to 1952.

To qualify for the Academic All-America Team, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.20, be a sophomore, junior or senior and player in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed. Each sport is divided into two divisions, University and College. The University Division includes all NCAA Division I schools, while the College Division encompasses all NCAA II, III and NAIA institutions.

CoSIDA is also separated into eight districts. District 4 includes all institutions in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.

Smith, a senior pitcher from Knoxville, Tenn., is majoring in business administration and accounting. On the field, he owns an 8-3 record with a 2.91 earned-run average and six saves. He has 38 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings pitched. In addition, Smith has set the program records for most appearances in a season (24) and most relief appearances in a season (24).

Satterlee, senior second baseman from Youngstown, Ohio, is majoring in criminal justice. Boasting a .381 average, he has six home runs, 17 doubles, 60 RBIs and 62 runs scored. In addition, Satterlee has stolen 24 bases in 26 attempts.
