MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (August 29, 2006) --- Seven NAIA teams, including MilliganCollege, were awarded the ITA All-Academic Team award for excellence in the classroom by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The ITA Scholar Athlete award was bestowed upon 32 individual NAIA athletes. The Buffaloes of Milligan College placed four athletes on the All-Academic list.
For Milligan, Joe Dyer (Monroe, Ga.), Isaac Schade (Stockbridge, Ga.), Tom Jones (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Stuart Makinson (Franklin, N.C.) were named to the team. Dyer, a biology major, and Schade, a Bible major, graduated from Milligan in May. Jones and Makinson, both business administration majors, are currently seniors.
The Buffaloes were also named a 2006 NAIA Scholar-Team in June.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year, including fall 2005 and spring 2006.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at present school for at least two semesters.
