BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - November 4 - Union College drained a school-record 21 3-pointers in a 110-54 victory Saturday over visiting Ohio State University-Marion in the Union College Classic.
The Lady Bulldogs hit 21 of 45 shots from long range, surpassing the previous record of 17.
Union also broke the century mark for the second time in as many games this season. The last time Union had two 100-point games in a season was during the 2004-05 campaign, and the last time it had consecutive 100-point games came in 2002 when it defeated Covenant (Ga.) College 102-84 on Dec. 7, 2002, and then beat King (Tenn.) College 105-85 on Dec. 10, 2002.
The Lady Bulldogs opened up a 17-2 three minutes and 10 seconds into the game and never looked back as they took a 57-13 lead into the half.
OSU-Marion made the game entertaining in the second half, especially with the play of Angie Marshall who scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the period. Still, Union outscored OSU-Marion 53-41 in the frame en route to the 56-point win.
Susanna Todd (Eubank, Ky.) and Carley Blankenship (Lexington, Ky.) each hit four 3-pointers with Todd posting a team-high 14 points and Blankenship netting 12. Andrea Hillard (Annville, Ky.) also had 12 points, moving her 12 points away from becoming the ninth player in Lady Bulldog history to score 1,000 points in a career.
Ashley Lunsford (Orlando, Ky.) chipped in 11 points.
For OSU-Marion (0-2 overall), Susan Roose joined Marshall in leading all scorers with 17 points.
Union won the battle of the boards, outrebounding OSU-Marion 46-28.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-0 overall) hit the road Wednesday to face the Lady Eagles of Midway (Ky.) College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
