Top seeds Brescia College and Milligan College advance to the NAIA Region XII men's soccer finals.  They will play for a berth in the 2006 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship.

MILLIGAN COLLEGE PRESS RELEASE, TN (November 10, 2006) ---
The Brescia University men’s soccer team defeated King College by a score of 4-1 on Friday evening in the NAIA Region XII Semifinal game at Anglin Field.

King got on the board first, with a goal from Igor Slisko in the 20th minute, but they were unable to hold the lead, and Brescia responded with four unanswered goals.

Andrew Varnes, David Shaw, Paul O’Toole and Fritz Seilbea all scored goals for Brescia, while Angel Abundez recorded three saves in goal.

The Milligan College men’s soccer team used a first half goal from Kyle Wilcox (Indianapolis, Ind.) to defeat Montreat (N.C.) College Friday evening in a semifinal contest in the NAIA Region XII Men’s Soccer Tournament. Milligan held on for the 1-0 win over fellow Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) member Montreat on a sloppy Anglin Field in front of a large crowd of Milligan supporters.

Milligan, the No. 2 seed, improved their record to 16-6 which established a new school record in wins during a season. Montreat saw their season come to an end with a 15-4-1 record. Friday’s match marked the third time Milligan and Montreat battled in 2006, with Milligan winning all three contests by identical 1-0 scores.

Wilcox, an All-AAC first team member, scored the only goal of the match in the 10th minute when he scored from the left side of the box unassisted. Milligan had additional scoring opportunities but could not add to their one goal lead.

All-AAC goalkeeper, Jordan Fode (Surrey, B.C., Canada) only had to stop one Montreat shot on goal en route to his 12th shutout this season for the Buffs. Milligan was able to attempt ten shots on goal during the match, but only one shot found the back of the net.

Milligan advances to the NAIA Region XII Men’s Soccer Championship match against No. 1 seed Brescia (Ky.) University, the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions. The Buffs and the Bearcats of Brescia will play for a birth in the 2006 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship. Brescia (16-3-2) advanced with their 4-1 win over King (Tenn.) College (13-6-1) in the first semifinal match earlier Friday evening. The championship match is set for a 3 p.m. start at Anglin Field Saturday afternoon.
