Bowling sets digs record, gets 5000th assist in UC loss

BRISTOL, Tenn . - November 11 - Volleyball - Amanda Bowling set yet another record Saturday; however, her quest for more came to an end as Union College lost 3-1 to Bryan (Tenn.) College in the elimination round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament.
  
The fourth-seeded Lady Bulldogs won the first game but dropped the next three as the third-seeded Lady Lions advanced with the 27-30, 31-29, 33-31, 30-27 decision.
  
In the loss, Bowling (Louisville, Ky.) recorded 16 digs to give her 523 on the season, surpassing the program's single-season mark. The previous record was 515 which was set in 2005 by Jessica Suttles.
 
Bowling reached another milestone as she posted 40 assists, upping her season total to 1,430 and her career total to 5,009 in becoming the first Lady Bulldog to reach the 5,000-assist plateau. Bowling also helped out with 10 kills. She ends her career with five school records.
 
Sophomore Marlee Cooper (Bloomington, Ill.) delivered 17 kills, while Autumn Combs (Florence, Ky.) had 10 kills and three blocks. Sarah Alderson (Birmingham, Ala.) was 27 of 28 on serve attempts with four aces.
 
Union ends the season with a 21-17 overall record.
