MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (November 12, 2006) --- The Milligan College men’s soccer team, the No. 18 seed, will play No. 15 Concordia (Ore.) University Wednesday, November 15, at 1:30 p.m. in a first round contest at the 2006 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship. Embry-RiddleAeronauticalUniversity will host the national championship, in Daytona Beach, Fla. The winner between Milligan and Concordia will advance to the second round to play No. 2 seed Graceland (Iowa) University.
Milligan (17-6) will make their first ever national championship appearance Wednesday while Concordia (12-5-3) will play in their third national championship. The Buffaloes won their first Region XII Championship Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Brescia (Ky.) University while Concordia defeated Westminster (Utah) College 2-1 to win the Region I Championship and qualify for the national championship.
2006 has been a historic season so far for the Buffaloes. Milligan head coach Dave Dixon and the team established a new school record for victories in a season with 17 with their win in the Region XII Championship. The Buffs also won their first regular season championship in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2006 with their 7-1 conference record. Milligan was also voted into the NAIA top-25 for the first time in the program’s history.
