ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Sam Wehner of Milligan and Sarah Kate Gartman of Milligan are the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This is the sixth edition of the weekly honors for the 2017 season. The next set of awards will be announced on Oct. 16.

AAC Men's Runner of the Week

Sam Wehner - Milligan - Soph. - Medina, Tenn.

  • Placed 3rd at the Allen and Phyllis Morgan Invitational.
  • Posted a 23 second PR in the 5K.
  • Ran a 5:04 mile pace.
  • Posted a time of 15:47.
  • Helped Milligan to take first in the team competition as it had 5 of the top 9 runners.
  • This is his first weekly honor this season.


AAC Women's Runner of the Week

Sarah Kate Gartman - Milligan - Sr. - Chattanooga, Tenn.

  • Won the the Allen and Phyllis Morgan Invitational.
  • Ran a 5:57 mile pace.
  • Posted a time of 18:33 in the 5K.
  • Helped Milligan to the team win as it placed 5 runners in the top 7.
  • This is her first weekly award this season.
