COLUMBIA, Ky. - February 20 - Softball - Union College started the season by splitting a doubleheader with host Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College, winning 7-1 in the first game but dropping the second 3-1 on Tuesday.

In the first game, freshman Sarah Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) made a dubious debut as she earned her way into the record book by pitching 13 strikeouts, she gave up three hits and just one run.

The previous record was nine strikeouts, which Jennifer Latham set on April 2, 2003, against Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College. In addition, Driver went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs in the 7-1 decision.
Junior Lyla Blauser (Hopkinsville, Ky.) also stood out by going 4-for-4 with one walk. Samantha Bridges (Jackson, Tenn.) also helped the team with a double and two RBIs, while Mallory Lavoy (Temperance, Mich.) batted 2-for-3
In the second game, Suzannah Behnken (Tempe, Ariz.) was 1-of-3 with an RBI, while Jenna Gray (Lakeland, Fla.) went 2-for-3. Still, it wasn't enough as Lindsey Wilson collected the 3-1 win.
The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face Trevecca Nazarene University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
