Lady Bulldogs pick up 2nd AAC title in a row

LONDON, Ky. - April 11 - Union College wrapped up the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season championship Wednesday with a 5-0 sweep of visiting Virginia Intermont College.

The championship was the second for the Lady Bulldogs in as many years. Add to the fact that this is only Union's second season back as sponsored intercollegiate sport, the feat is that more amazing.

"I am really proud of all the ladies on the team," said Union coach Renzo Lopez. "They have overcome a lot this season and really worked together to win the championship."

The Lady Bulldogs have had to play without their top player from last season in Paola Gamarra (Asuncion, Paraguay). Gamarra, who was both the AAC and NAIA Region XII Player of the Year in 2006, suffered an injured has been sidelined for over a month.

No matter.

The rest of the team has pulled it together as Union posted a spotless 6-0 conference record. The Lady Bulldogs are 11-5 overall.

Against Virginia Intermont (0-7 overall, 0-5 AAC), Union sealed through, winning all five matches.
