The Buffs held a ten-shot lead over Brescia (Ky.) University after the first 18 holes of play. Milligan finished the first round with a total of 319 while Brescia fired a 329 followed by third-place Covenant (Ga.) College’s 330. In the second round, Brescia cut in the Milligan lead with a 309 while the Buffs posted a 312 and Covenant finished with a 320.
Entering the final round on Tuesday, Milligan holds a seven-shot advantage over Bresica, 631-to-638 while Covenant is 12 shots behind Brescia in third.
AAC foes UVA-Wise and Bluefield (Va.) College rounded out the top five after the first two rounds of play.
In the individual competition, Milligan’s Matt Ongie (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Grayson Patton (Fries, Va.) lead the way with scores of 154 and 157 respectively. Clay Williams of Brescia is tied with Patton in second place with his 157. Terrence Evans (Galax, Va.) of Milligan is tied for fourth with John Wilkinson from Covenant with two-round totals of 158.
The final score for the Milligan squad came from Matt Barefoot (Kingsport, Tenn.) with his 162 to finish tied for 12th place in the individual standings.
The final round will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, with a birth in the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship on the line for the Region XII champion.
