MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 17, 2007) --- The Milligan College golf team pulled away in the final round on Tuesday to capture the program’s first ever NAIA Region XII Championship. Milligan won the championship by 12 shots over Brescia (Ky.) University, 947-to-959. The Buffs entered the final 18 holes with a seven-shot advantage over Brescia and Milligan posted a 316 while Brescia could not cut into the lead with their 321 on Tuesday.
 
The Buffs also captured the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) championship at the event. Milligan’s 22-shot advantage, 947-to-969, over Covenant (Ga.) College gave the Buffs their third AAC championship in the last four years. The championships were contested at the par-72 Elizabethton Golf Club in Elizabethton, Tenn.
 
UVA-Wise and Union (Ky.) College rounded out the top five in the Regional standings.
 

Milligan’s Terrance Evans (Galax, Va.) fired a final round 75 to claim the NAIA Region XII and AAC individual medalist honors. For the championship, Evans posted a three-round total of 233. To go along with Evans’ medalist honors, two Buffs, Matt Ongie (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Grayson Patton (Fries, Va.), earned All-Region XII and All-AAC honors by virtue of their top-five finishes. Ongie finished tied for second at 235 while Patton was tied for fifth, one stroke behind Ongie. 

Seniors Ryan Morris (Frankfort, Ind.) and Matt Barefoot (Kingsport, Tenn.) fired final rounds of 81 and 83 respectively to round out the Buffs’ scoring.
 
Milligan head coach Tony Wallingford was named NAIA Region XII Coach of the Year.
 

The Buffs earn a birth for the 56th annual NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship at the Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Ind. The championship is set to begin on May 22.
