BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - April 18 - The accolades continue to roll in for Union College freshman Sarah Driver as the NAIA recognized her as the organization's Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday.
This marks the first time in Lady Bulldog softball history that a player has earned a NAIA Player or Pitcher of the Week nod.
In the circle, Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) went 3-1 last week as she tossed a perfect game in a 13-0 win over Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College last week. Over a span of three games, she had a streak of 10 1/3 innings of perfect softball as she set down 31 consecutive batters. Additionally, Driver recorded 21 2/3 innings of shutout ball. Driver had 30 strikeouts in four games last week.
On the season, Driver has rewritten the Lady Bulldog record book. At 18-7, she broke the records for wins in a season as well as strikeouts in a game (13), strikeouts in a season (209), strikeouts in a career and saves in a season (2). Driver's earned-run average of 1.66 is on pace to best the school mark of 1.69, which was set by Jennifer Latham in 2003.
Union is 30-16 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs' next home games are scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. when they play host to Virginia Intermont College in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.
