Montreat lefty Jason Adkins
has been named NAIA National Baseball Pitcher of the Week after helping
Montreat to a 5-1 record last week with a pair of wins in seven-inning
outings.
Adkins' first appearance came at Covenant (Ga.), where the senior
from Jacksonville, N.C., had a no-hitter in tact until the seventh
inning, holding Covenant scoreless with 12 strike outs and one hit
surrendered while offering one free pass in the 4-0 Montreat victory.
In his second appearance of the week, Adkins beat nationally
ranked Union (Ky.), giving up six hits and one run while striking out
eight and walking one. With the win, Adkins pushed his record to 2-0 on
the week and ran his 14-inning strike out total to 20.
On the year, Adkins is 8-3 with a 2.83 ERA, making 11
appearances with 70.0 innings pitched and 88 strike outs. His
strike-outs-to-walks ratio is nearly 7-to-1, and on the season, Adkins
has given up 59 hits and a .223 opponent batting average.
