BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – June 19 – After setting numerous program records and helping the Union College softball team reach new heights in 2007, senior Kaila McSpedon achieved another milestone as she was named a 2007 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NAIA All-American, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced recently.

McSpedon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) is the first Lady Bulldog to earn any kind of All-American honors.

In addition, McSpedon was an All-East Region First Team selection while teammates Lyla Blauser (Hopkinsville, Ky.) and Sarah Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) landed on the All-East Region Second Team.

McSpedon, who was selected as a designated player, helped guide Union to a program-best 38-21 record and its first-ever Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season championship. McSpedon batted .343 and set school records for doubles (21), home runs (seven) and RBIs (56) in a season. She also owns eight career records, including most hits (195), doubles (49), home runs (13) and RBIs (125).

Blauser, a junior outfielder, made the All-East Region Second Team largely on the strength of her legs as she swiped a school-record 42 bases. She already owned the single-game record with seven stolen bases and is the all-time steals leader with 99. During the 2007 campaign, Blauser led Union with a .408 average with 62 runs scored and a .488 on-base percentage.

Driver secured her spot on the All-East Region Second Team with a record-setting season in the circle as the freshman pitcher posted a 23-11 record with a 1.42 earned-run average. She set school records for most wins and earned-run average in a season as well as most strikeouts in a game (13) and in a season (271). Driver also tossed the first perfect game in program history and posted a school-record 10 shutouts. At the plate, she batted .380 with one home run, 36 RBIs and 43 runs scored.

The Lady Bulldogs posted a 38-21 overall record and won the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season championship.
