Montreat's Head Men's Basketball Coach Bill Robinson didn’t have to look too far for his newest assistant.
Patrick Hanlon will join Robinson and his staff for the 2007-2008 basketball season. Hanlon graduated last spring from Montreat College and played five years for Robinson. While a player, Hanlon was a four-time scholar athlete and team captain his senior year.
“Patrick has always thought more like a coach than a player. He’s always had a good feel for what was going on during a contest,” praised Robinson of his ex-player. “I am really excited about the addition of Patrick to our staff. He has been a part of our program for five years and he knows our system as well as anyone and I know he will be an integral part of our success in the coming seasons.”
Coach Hanlon’s role will encompass coordinating recruiting visits, traveling and practice schedules, and strength and conditioning.
“I’ve wanted to be a coach for a long time. I’m so excited about this position and think it’s a great start to my coaching career. I feel that Coach Robinson is a great mentor and I look forward to working with him on this new level,” said Hanlon.
It was last season’s senior night that gave Hanlon a look into his future career.
“During senior night, Coach Robinson was saying a few words about each senior. When he got to me he mentioned to everyone in the crowd that he would love to have me on his staff one day,” added Hanlon. “Obviously, I was thrilled and honored to hear that.”
Coach Hanlon’s day has arrived and Montreat College is proud to have his loyalty on the basketball staff.
