UVa-Wise Volleyball “Dig for a Cure Night” Smash Hit
Posted by Chris Myers - Sat, Oct 13, 2007 - [Volleyball] - Viewed 220 times
In the inaugural event, the University of Virginia’s College at Wise women’s volleyball “Dig for a Cure Night” proved to be a smash hit Wednesday night. The Tennessee Wesleyan and UVa-Wise teams combined to raise over $2,150 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

The “Dig for a Cure Night” was the only one of its kind in the NAIA and one of 50 sponsored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association by collegiate women’s volleyball teams this year to raise money for breast cancer research. The event is being planned to turn into an annual event to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, the world’s largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

The two volleyball teams received pledges for each dig their squad made in the match. Tennessee Wesleyan was able to raise an impressive $750 for the cause. Host UVa-Wise produced a total of $1,400 between its dig pledges and monies donated at the Wednesday night event, which the Lady Cavs won by a 3-1 score.

UVa-Wise would like to thank all of the event sponsors who made the night a success. The sponsors included Cavalier Pharmacy of Wise, who provided both teams and game workers for the night with pink t-shirts to commemorate the event, Lucky Dog Volleyball, Fishtales of Norton, April Bevins-Brickey of Peebles, the UVa-Wise Bookstore, Quizno’s Subs, Baden and Active Ankle.
