PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Union College broke the program record for wins with its 29th victory of the season Thursday, while freshman Monica Moreland set the single-season mark for assists as the Lady Bulldogs swept host Pikeville (Ky.) College.
The 29 victories surpass the previous mark of 28-18 which was set in 1993 - the program's second season in existence. Of the Lady Bulldogs' 29 wins, 17 have come by the way of 3-0 sweeps.
Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) recorded 45 assists Thursday to give her 1,454 helpers on the year, eclipsing the previous mark of 1,427 set by Amanda Bowling in 2006.
Playing in 138 games and all 38 matches this season, Moreland is averaging 10.5 assists per game. The 45-assist performance at Pikeville marked the 15th time she has had 40 or more assists in a match. Moreland recorded a season-high 59 assists in 3-1 win over Brescia (Ky.) University on Sept. 15.
Moreland also has 438 digs to her credit, averaging 3.2 per game. She has had 25 double-digit dig outings, including the last five matches in a row, and had a season-high 34 in a 3-1 win over Loyola (La.) University on Sept. 1.
Union is currently 29-9 overall and 14-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
