DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Martin Methodist junior Sara Perrigan tallied
three points as the fifth-seeded Redhawks advanced to the quarterfinal
round with a 3-0 victory over No. 12 King (Tenn.), Friday at the NAIA
Women's Soccer tournament. All three of the goals came in the first
half of play for the Redhawks, who are now 17-4 on the year. The King
College Tornado end their season at 17-4-1 with the loss.
After
a King foul in the sixth minute, Julia Bazi took the ensuing free kick
with the outside of her right foot and ball found Victoria Charmley
whose header glanced off a King defender and into the net for a 1-0
Martin Methodist lead.
At the 36:06 mark, the Tornado sent the
ball over the touch line and Sara Perrigan's right-footed in-swinger on
the corner kick sailed untouched into the back of the net to make the
score 2-0.
Another corner kick led to the Redhawks' third goal
of the match as Misty Facey finished Perrigan's third corner kick
attempt in the 44th minute for the win.
Martin Methodist will take on No. 4 Concordia (Ore.) at 2:30 on Saturday.
