BLUFIELD, Va. – It has been a season of milestones for Tim Curry, and he added yet another one to his scrapbook Wednesday as No. 22 Union College defeated host Bluefield (Va.) College 109-67 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play to make him the winningest coach in program history.
The win improved Union to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while Bluefield dropped to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in the AAC.
Curry is now 112-99 as the Lady Bulldog head coach, surpassing Debbie D’Anna for most wins in program history as she posted a 111-161 record. Coincidentally, the milestone victory came against the program Curry left to come to Union. Curry coached six seasons at Bluefield, compiling a 92-112 record.
Earlier in the season, Curry became the second person in program history to amass 100 wins as Union won its home opener 92-80 over Midway (Ky.) College on Nov. 6. He then collected his 200th career victory on Dec. 11 when Union edged Pikeville (Ky.) 94-91 in overtime.
Curry’s career record now stands at 204-211.
During his tenure, Curry has taken the Lady Bulldogs to unprecedented heights. Union posted a program-best 25 wins during the 2002-03 season. Union has posted two of its three 20-win seasons under Curry as well as earned its only two berths to the NAIA Division II National Championship Tournament. Curry has also guided Union to two Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament titles.
Union returns home Saturday to entertain conference foe Virginia Intermont College at 4 p.m.
