BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Senior Chris Stunson joined Union College’s 1,000-point club Saturday, however the Bulldogs were handed an 86-76 setback by Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Virginia Intermont College in front of the home crowd Saturday.

Stunson, a guard from Richmond, Ky. poured in a team-high 18 points to give him 1,004 for his career. He becomes the 26th member of the 1,000-point club and ranks 25th on Union's all-time scoring list. Stunson went 5-of-8 from the field, which included a 3-of-6 performance from behind the 3-point line. He also converted on five of his seven three throws. His 18 points was one off his season high and it is the fifth time he has led the Bulldogs this season.

After the game, the Bulldogs moved to 11-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference and Virginia Intermont owns a 8-6 record and 4-2 in conference play.

Union committed 22 turnovers which directly led to 32 points for the Cobras. In comparison, the Bulldogs were only able to score seven points on 15 Virginia Intermont turnovers. The Cobras were credited with nine steals and Union had five.

The first half saw an exciting 20 minutes in which there was six ties and three lead changes as Virginia Intermont took a 37-33 advantage into the locker room. The largest lead either team enjoyed was when the Cobras jumped in front 7-2 over the first two minutes of action.

The Cobras pushed their advantage out to 13 points halfway through the final half. Union made small runs to cut the lead down to five points with six minutes left on the clock. Virginia Intermont regained momentum and control of the game with a 9-0 spurt over a three-minute span to build the lead to 77-63 with 3:42 left. The closest Union could come was within eight points down the stretch.

Aaron Dunaway (Lexington, Ky.) and Brian Kirk (Augusta, Ky.) scored 14 points apiece. All of Kirk's points came in the second half. Sophomore forward Huberts von Heyden (Neulengbach, Austria) added 10 points and dished out three assists, both career highs.

Virginia Intermont’s Akeem Price posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs. Courtney White added 21 more points and five assists. Jamie Butler and Juan Ornelas also scored in double-digits with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Cobras shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field and Union was right there with a 45.5 field-goal percentage (25-of-55). Virginia Intermont converted on 10-of-24 3-point attempts and Union made 5-of-15.

On the glass, Union was one rebound behind the Cobras, 34-33.

Union will make a trip to No. 20 Milligan (Tenn.) College Tuesday for another conference contest, it is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Bulldog Notes

• This is Union's third two-game losing streak of the season, the longest such streak.
• Virginia Intermont's 49 second-half points ties the most given up by the Bulldogs this season. Montreat (N.C.) College also poured in 49 points.
• Union is 2-5 this season in games in which the Bulldogs trail at halftime.
• When their opponents grab more defensive rebounds, the Bulldogs are 0-3. Va. Intermont won that category 26-24.
