LONDON, Ky. - With a 5-0 win over Covenant (Ga.) College Monday, the Union College men's tennis team has won the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season title for the second year in a row.
The win stretches Union's regular-season winning streak to 16, dating back to 2007. Also, the Bulldogs, ranked 14th nationally, have won 13 AAC regular-season matches in a row. The last time the Bulldogs lost a regular-season conference match was April 4, 2006. With the AAC Championship, Union has earned a return trip to defend the NAIA Region XII championship, which will be contested in late April.
Anthony Hill (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Gustavo Holz (Vitoria, Brazil) won the only two singles' matches contested and their points clinched the win and AAC crown. The two also won at No. 1 doubles.
After the match, the Bulldogs have a 5-0 AAC record with an overall record of 8-0. Covenant moved to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in the AAC.
Union will be a part of the Blast Off Classic this weekend at Shorter College. Action starts Friday in Rome, Ga.
