Coming out of the losers' bracket, No. 2 seed Union had to defeat
Tennessee Wesleyan twice in order to capture the title.
Union won the
first game 8-4 behind another strong performance from junior pitcher Marty Popham.
Then, Union built a 5-1 lead in the second contest and held on
for the 5-4 decision and its second region crown in a row.
Union (45-15 overall) now advances to the South Central Super
Regional to face Cumberland (TN) University, which won NAIA Region
XI. The super regional winner will receive an automatic berth to the
NAIA World Series.
Dates and times for the super regional will be announced Sunday.

Game 7 - Tennessee Wesleyan vs. UVa-Wise, 12 p.m. - Winners' Bracket Final Game 8 - Union vs. Game 6 Winner, 3:30 p.m.
Game 9 - Game 8 Winner vs. Game 7 Loser, 7 p.m. - Losers' Bracket Final
Saturday, May 10
Game 10 - Game 7 Winner vs. Game 9 Winner, 12 p.m. - Championship Game
Game 11 - Game 10 Winner vs. Game 10 Loser (if necessary)
The tournament is May 7-10 (at Kingsport, Tennessee)
Top seeded Tennessee
Wesleyan will play against sixth seeded Brescia at 12:00 p.m. ET
In the 3:30 Contest, second seed Union College will play fifth seed IU Southeast.
A 7:00 pm contest features third
seed King and fourth seed UVA Wise.
