EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Two Union College athletes, Johnnie Nabors and Andre Thornton ran to All-American honors at the 2008 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship. Senior Brandon Kibert also was named a Daktronics-NAIA Men's Track and Field Scholar-Athlete by the organization.

Thornton just missed his school record in the 400 meter dash with a 47.32 second run. He used a school-record run on Friday to qualify for the finals. This marks the second time this year the junior from Loganville, Ga., is an All-American after he earned the award at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship for the 200 meters.

Nabors, from Lawrenceville, Ga., finished fifth in the 100 Meter final with a 10.55 second run. It was also a school record for the junior. Nabors is a two-time NAIA Indoor All-American in the 60 Meter dash the past two years.

Union finished tied for 26th in the team standings with 10 points.

Kibert ran in the marathon, the second straight appearance for the senior. The Tazewell, Tenn. native finished 28th as he broke his school record with a two hour, 44 minute and 49 second performance. This marked the third time Kibert earned the award. He was on the list last year and added the honor for the 2007 cross country season.

To be honored as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must hold junior or senior academic standing and have a minimum 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

There are a total of 167 student-athletes that have earned the award on the men's side. In all, 71 different NAIA institutions are represented on the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete squad.
