The Buffs' defeat of Montreat College Saturday was not only an achievement for the Buffs, but for their coach, as well. In his twenty-first year of coaching at Milligan, men's basketball Head Coach Tony Wallingford passed yet another milestone in his career-400 wins. Wallingford, a four-time AAC Coach of the Year, is Milligan's all-time winningest coach with 389 wins in 20 seasons. After seven conference championships and an overall record of 541-260, Wallingford ranks first among AAC coaches and fourteenth in the NAIA-a pool of nearly 300 coaches.

During Wallingford's tenure at Milligan, the Buffs have been ranked among the NAIA's top 25 seven times. Wallingford has led the Buffs through 13 20-plus win seasons.

"The longer you coach the less the ‘numbers' actually mean," said Wallingford. "The real value in my experience as a coach has been the relationships you develop with the players that come through your program. The four-hundredth win is simply a reminder to me of the privilege it has been to be at Milligan for so long and to have had a chance to work with so many outstanding players. I often joke with my guys that I've never hit a game winner, pulled down a big rebound, or hit a clutch free throw to win a game. They have to make the plays to win. I want to thank all of my players for their dedication to Milligan basketball and for keeping me young and excited about the game."
