Milligan College, Tenn. (April 18, 2009) --- The Milligan College softball team (27-13, 13-3) became the AAC regular season champions today for the second year in a row as they swept Bluefield College on Senior Night in an AAC doubleheader.

The Lady Buffs beat the Lady Rams in the first game 6-2, and the second game 8-1. The Lady Buffs honored seniors Jessica Blevins (Watagua, Tenn.) and Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.) in their last regular season home game playing for Milligan. 

Sophomore Sidney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) earned the first win for the Lady Buffs, pitching four innings and recorded eight strikeouts with no hits. Freshman Brooke Ingle (Waynesville, N.C.) relieved Burns and pitched the last three innings. Ingle recorded three strikeouts and allowed five hits, two earned.

Leading the Lady Buffs at the plate was sophomore Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) g oing 1-3 with one RBI. Junior Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.) went 1-4 with one RBI, while freshman Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) went 2-3. Blevins went 1-4, while Tincher went 1-2. Junior Melanie Strickler (Kingsport, Tenn.) went 1-3 with one RBI. Burns went 1-1, while Ingle went 1-1 with two RBIs. Sophomore Alicia Engle (Erwin, Tenn.) tallied one RBI.

In the second game, junior Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) earned the win pitching four innings. Musick recorded six strikeouts and allowed two hits. Freshman Rachel Ingleby (Knoxville, Tenn.) closed the game, pitching three innings. Ingleby recorded three strikeouts and allowed three hits with one unearned run.

Leading at the plate for the Lady Buffs was junior Jessica Russell (New Market, Tenn.) going 2-3 with four RBIs. Fix went 2-4, while Ingleby went 1-3. Sapp went 1-2 with one RBI, while Engle went 1-3 with one RBI. Blevins and White went 1-4 each. Freshman Megan Heaton (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Tincher tallied one RBI each. 

"I'm really proud of them," said Head Coach Wes Holly. "We played four days in a row, but they were still able to pull it together. We are looking forward to the postseason."

The first place Lady Buffs will begin postseason play for the AAC tournament on April 28. The opposing team and location is TBA.

The Lady Buffs play next against Concord University (Athens, W.Va.) on Tuesday April 21, at Athens, W.Va. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
