
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Johnnie Nabors did it again as the he ran an All-American honor Saturday at the 2009 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in the 200-meter dash. Teammate DeMorrio Leggett also jumped to All-American honors.
Nabors finished the 200 sixth thanks to a time of 21.74 seconds. He qualified for the finals earlier Saturday after posting a time of 21.65. Friday saw Nabors finish third in the 100 meters giving him three NAIA Outdoor Track and Field All-American honors in his career. In Thursday's prelim race Nabors ran the half lap in 21.58.
The 200 was won by King (Tenn.) College's Tyrell Cuffy in 21.06 seconds as he defended his 2008 crown.
Leggett, a freshman from Bardstown, Ky., cleared 47 feet and 2 1/4 inches in the triple jump. The leap was good enough for fifth. This is his second triple jump All-American honor during his freshman year. Leggett was an All-American at the indoor championship after he covered 46 feet and 9 inches.
Monti Sutton, from Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University jumped 50 feet and 1/2 inch to take the championship.
The three All-Americans for Union are the most in an outdoor track and field championship in program history. The 2008 squad produced two All-American performances.
