Alicia James had a goal and an assist as the Bethel College Lady
Wildcats defeated the Covenant College Lady Scots 2-0 in Saturday
afternoon's NAIA Region XII women's soccer championship game.
In the championship match, both teams battled to a scoreless first half
before James gathered in a deflected ball and knocked home the game's
decisive goal, at the 59:53 mark. With just two minutes left in the
game, James fed Lewis for the insurance goal, sealing Bethel's regional
championship.
Bethel advances to the NAIA national championships held in Olathe,
Kansas, while Covenant College, the #15-ranked team in the nation, must
wait on the results of all of the other regional tournaments that will
conclude next week, to determine whether or not they'll earn an
at-large bid.
