Reinhardt invited its faculty, staff and students to participate in the two-mile run/walk, which was held on the College's Waleska campus. Donations of $10 were welcomed with proceeds going to the Nothing But Nets campaign for the prevention of spreading malaria.
Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. The campaign was inspired by ESPN columnist Rick Reilly, who challenged each of his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed net. To date, tens of thousands of people have joined the campaign that was created by the UN Foundation in 2006.
At Reinhardt's run, each person who donated $10 received a pair of fishnet gloves to wear during the race in a show of support in the fight against malaria.
The Eagles basketball team, under head coach Jeffrey Pourchier, raised $252 in the community for Nothing But Nets. Overall, the event raised $560 for the campaign, which will provide 56 nets to families in Africa.
To donate to the Nothing But Nets cause, please contact Reinhardt chaplain Rev. Leigh Martin at (770) 720-5634 or LSM@reinhardt.edu. For more information on the campaign, please visit www.nothingbutnets.net.
