Montreat Women's Basketball Named 2024-25 AAC Women's Team of Character
WALESKA, Ga. - The Montreat women's basketball team is the 2024-25 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Teams of Character, the league announced on Tuesday.
The award was voted on and selected by the athletic directors of the AAC.
The Montreat College Women's Basketball team didn't have a home during the 2024-25 season after Hurricane Helene caused irreparable damage to parts of McAlister Gymnasium, as well as the entire basement level of the facility. Despite the lack of somewhere on campus to practice and host games, the Cavaliers made the most of their season. Sometimes traveling over an hour for practice or to play a home game, they still finished 17-12 (14-8 AAC) overall and claimed the No. 6 seed in the AAC Tournament.
Off the court, the Cavs were involved in the recovery efforts and clean-up. In addition to several players helping in their local communities on their own, the team aided in an event at La Tapa where they helped pack, unpack, and move needed supplies, mattresses, etc., for those impacted in the community and region. Academically, Montreat picked up six Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete nods and eight AAC All-Academic Team spots.
