AAC to Welcome Four into Hall of Fame
WALESKA, Ga. - The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) will induct four into its Hall of Fame, the league announced on Wednesday.
Receiving the honors are Union's Brooke Smith-Sanders, Milligan's Hannah Segrave, Reinhardt's Randi Wimpy, and former Virginia Intermont coach Scott Simmons. These four join Jim Cradic, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame back in February, to make up the 2025 class.
"This is one extraordinary class we are inducting this year," AAC Commissioner Bill Popp said. "All three student-athletes rank among the best, if not the best, in the conference in their respective sports. The trio possesses nine Player of the Year awards amongst them, while the coach collected four NAIA Coach of the Year honors. We have been truly blessed to have great coaches and athletes in our league."
Smith-Sanders was a four-year starter for the Union women's basketball team, earning the AAC Player of the Year award three times. She finished her career as the conference's all-time scorer with 2,772 points.
Segrave dominated the 800-meter run over a two-year span, winning the NAIA individual national championship at both the indoor and outdoor championships in 2016 and 2017. She became the first woman in AAC history to win an individual crown at the NAIA outdoor championships.
Simmons coached the Virginia Intermont cross country and track & field teams and won three NAIA National Championships and posted three national runner-up finishes. A four-time NAIA Coach of the Year at Virginia Intermont, he coached 25 individual national champions and 95 NAIA All-Americans.
Wimpy, a catcher for three seasons for Reinhardt, helped the Lady Eagles to three AAC regular-season championships, two AAC tournament crowns, and a third-place finish at the 2014 NAIA Softball World Series. A three-time AAC Player of the Year, Wimpy posted a .440 career batting average with 43 home runs and 193 RBI.
The 2025 AAC Hall of Fame Ceremony will take place on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the MeadowView Marriott in Kingsport, Tenn. Also being honored that evening are the AAC end-of-year award winners for the 2024-25 season.
