2012-13 All-AAC Men's Basketball Team Announced
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The 2012-13 All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Team was announced Tuesday at the tournament banquet at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn., on Tuesday.
E'Jay Ward of Tennessee Wesleyan headlined the All-AAC Team as he was named the Player of the Year as well as the Defensive Player of the Year. This is the first time he took top league honors, but it's the second year in a row Ward has been honored as the top defensive player.
Brandon Cole of Bryan and Cartree Pettis of Milligan earned Co-Freshman of the Year honors, and Mike Poe of Tennessee Wesleyan claimed the Coach of the Year award.
Tennessee Wesleyan received its trophy for being the AAC regular-season champion, and Bryan and Montreat were honored as Co-Champions of Character Teams.
Ward averages 8.3 points per game and 3.5 rebounds, but he has dished out 149 assists and made 76 steals.
Pettis leads Milligan in assists (128) and steals (73) to go along with 10.73 points-per-game average. Cole leads Bryan in scoring (13.43 points per game) and rebounding (8.29 rebounds per game).
Joining Ward on the All-AAC First Team are Tim Mitchell of Point, Joshua Hart of Virginia Intermont, Desmond Crisp of Tennessee Wesleyan and La'Bris Adams of Montreat.
Making up the All-AAC Second Team are Rob Riley of Bryan, Zamarius McClendon of Tennessee Wesleyan, Torian Sitton of Milligan, Quinton Wood of Reinhardt and Tarik Smith of Union. The All-AAC Third Team consists of Tyler Burse of Tennessee Wesleyan, Tyler DeVault of Milligan, Justin Morris of Virginia Intermont, Brandon Hopkins of Point and Bernard Parks of Point.
The All-Defensive Team is made up of Ward, Mitchell, Sitton, Hart and Riley.
The All-Freshman Team consists of Pettis, Cole, Anthony Goode of Virginia Intermont, Chris Orr of St. Andrews, Rafael Tyler of Bryan, Seth Houston of Point and J.D. Tucker of Virginia Intermont.
There are nine student-athletes making up the Academic All-Conference Team with Reinhardt and Tennessee Wesleyan leading the way with two members each.
