AAC Announces Men's Basketball All-Conference Awards
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced the 2013-14 Men's Basketball All-Conference Team on Wednesday, and Joshua Hart of Virginia Intermont is the AAC Player of the Year.
Union's Kevin Burton is the Coach of the Year after guiding the Bulldogs to the regular-season championship. Other individual award winners are Cartee Pettis of Milligan as the Defensive Player of the Year and Kerigan Farley of Montreat as the Freshman of the Year.
Montreat received the Champions of Character Team award.
Hart led the conference in scoring with a 27.15 points-per-game average, ranking him third in NAIA Division II. His 706 total points ranks him seventh nationally. He also averaged 7.2 rebounds a game and had 39 assists and 30 steals. His game of the season came in 123-116 loss to Union when he poured in 51 points.
Pettis averaged 12.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, but he also registered 72 steals and five blocks to claim top defensive honors.
Farley scored at a 14.2 clip and grabbed 3.4 rebounds a night. In addition, he dished out 114 assists and swiped 49 balls.
Joining Hart on the All-AAC first team are Brandon Cole of Bryan, Quinton Wood of Reinhardt, Deante Johnson of Union and Tyler Burse of Tennessee Wesleyan.
Making up the All-AAC second team are La'Bris Adams of Montreat, Tarik Smith of Union, Mickey Woods of Milligan, Brandon Wright of Point, and Shannon Smith of Tennessee Wesleyan.
Union placed two on the All-AAC third team in Fitzgerald White and DeAntray Stevens. Also making the third team are Andretti Loyd of Truett-McConnell, Luke Joseph of Reinhardt, Aaron Smith of St. Andrews, Torian Sitton of Milligan and J.D. Tucker of Virginia Intermont.
Joining Pettis on the All-Defensive Team are White, Joseph, Woods, Gerard Newby of Union and Derrick Walker of Bryan.
Landing on the All-Freshmen Team with Farley are Newby, Michael Bueter of Union, Thierry Fredric of Truett-McConnell, Melvin Irvin of Montreat, Quay Williams of Truett-McConnell and Titus Gary of St. Andrews.
There are 12 student-athletes on the All-Academic Team with Milligan lead the way with three honorees.
